Korbin Albert, a midfielder for the US women's football<\/a> team, apologised Friday for having liked and shared social media posts that she described as \u201coffensive, insensitive and hurtful".<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old Albert, who plays for Paris Saint-Germain<\/a>, had reportedly reposted anti-LGBTQ+ content on her TikTok account.<\/p>\n

\u201cI want to sincerely apologise for my actions on social media,\u201d Albert wrote on her Instagram story.<\/p>\n

\u201cLiking and sharing posts that are offensive, insensitive and hurtful was immature and disrespectful which was never my intent.\u201d<\/p>\n

According to multiple media outlets, Albert shared a video from a Christian sermon that described being gay and \u201cfeeling transgender\u201d as wrong.<\/p>\n

Albert's apology came shortly after PSG's 3-0 win over H\u00e4cken in the Women's Champions League quarter-finals \u2014 she scored in the game \u2014 and followed criticism from recently retired US star Megan Rapinoe.<\/p>\n

\u201cI'm really disappointed in myself,\u201d Albert continued, \u201cand am deeply sorry for the hurt that I have caused to my teammates, other players, fans, friends and anyone who was offended.<\/p>\n

\u201cI truly believe that everyone should feel safe and respected everywhere and on all playing fields,\u201d she wrote. \u201cI know my actions have not lived up to that and for that I sincerely apologise. It's an honour and a privilege to get to play this sport on the world stage and I promise to do better.\u201d<\/p>\n

Rapinoe, a former US captain, didn't identify Albert by name but in her Instagram story urged people not \u201cto hide behind \u2018my beliefs\u2019\u201d because \u201dkids are literally killing themselves because of this hate".<\/p>\n

Albert has made seven appearances for the United States and was a starter during this year's CONCACAF Women's Gold Cup. She is also on the roster for the upcoming SheBelieves Cup.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
