AFL's<\/a> controversy king Kane Cornes<\/a> says he's well aware everyone wants to see him get his "head punched in" when he gets in the ring for the first time.<\/p>\n

Cornes isn't afraid to shy away from hot takes, but the thought of punching on brings some trepidation.<\/p>\n

Cornes is set to go head to head with Collingwood legend Nathan Brown in Stan Event's boxing pay-per-view The Gathering on Wednesday.\u00a0<\/p>\n

The pair will contest four, two-minute rounds inside Adelaide Arena.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking a week out from the fight on Triple M's Rush Hour with JB & Billy<\/em>, a coy Cornes said he's nervous about the clash and that "I literally don't know what I'm doing" in the ring.<\/p>\n

"Am I ready? I've been training hard but I mean, it's a bit like Bill (Brownless) trying to get a university degree in eight weeks," said Cornes.<\/p>\n

"That's what it's like. It's a really difficult sport to master, so yeah, I feel a little bit overwhelmed by it and a little bit nervous because everyone wants me to get my head punched in."<\/p>\n

Cornes and Brown both admit they're mates outside the ring. However, once they put the gloves on, any friendship goes out the window as they try put the other fighter to bed.<\/p>\n

"You're both competitive, aren't you? You can have a laugh now and take the mickey out of each other, but once it gets into there and once one of us cops one in the head, I think we'll be pretty agitated by that," said Cornes.<\/p>\n

"I've got no idea how he's going to react, how I'm going to react, how the crowd's going to react. That's why it's interesting, the whole night."<\/p>\n

Cornes has been preparing out of the Adelaide Fight Club with guidance from Olly Savage and sparring partner and former Adelaide player Andrew McLeod (pictured below).<\/p>\n

Brown, meanwhile, has been training at Crew Fitness and the Richmond Boxing Club.<\/p>\n

While Cornes is trying to keep a lid on his expectations, Brown is confident he'll walk away victorious.<\/p>\n

"Funnily enough, he's a good mate of mine. I've known Kane for a long time," said Brown.<\/p>\n

"He's a physical specimen who is meant to be the elite of the elite, but he'll soon slow down when he gets one to the solar plexus, won't he? And then a follow-up on the chin.<\/p>\n

"For three months I've been hitting the pads, feeling good, dropping weight, and then all of a sudden comes the sparring.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Some fighters, they just love fighting and getting hit in the head. I'm not one of them. I like to get out of the way of it.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I'm under no illusion I'm that I'm a boxer, I'm an ex-AFL player having a crack for a one-off.<\/p>\n

"If Kane's going to war with me, he's going to have to last the distance because there's no way I'm going down.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"This fight definitely finishes with me getting my hand raised. I just cannot, and I refuse to go down to Kane Cornes."<\/p>\n

Their fight is one of four on the night featuring ex-AFL players.<\/p>\n

Premiership winner Dale Thomas faces off against Dane Swan of Collingwood fame, as well as Anthony Rocca (Collingwood) and Corey McKernan (North Melbourne) squaring off.<\/p>\n

Carlton and Brisbane Lions legend Mitch Robinson will takes on Kane Pettifer, formerly of Richmond.<\/p>\n
