Australian cricket legend Jason Gillespie<\/a> has quit as head coach of South Australia<\/a> and the Adelaide Strikers<\/a> after lacklustre seasons in domestic competitions.<\/p>\n

The Redbacks finished second last in the Sheffield Shield and last in the Marsh One Day Cup, however the Strikers did play finals in the BBL.<\/p>\n

Reports have linked Gillespie to a coaching vacancy in Pakistan after the former Australia fast bowler still had one year remaining on his contract. \ufeff<\/p>\n

The 48-year-old took over from the Strikers in BBL|05 and led them to a maiden championship in BBL|07.<\/p>\n

\ufeffGillespie took over South Australia in the 2020\/21 summer and had signed a two-year extension in 2022 which would've seen him through until the end of the 2024\/25 season.<\/p>\n

South Australia Cricket Association general manager Tim Nielsen also finished up in his role a month ago. \ufeff<\/p>\n

In a statement from SACA, president Will Rayner said Gillespie "will always be considered one of the legends of South Australian cricket".<\/p>\n

"Both as a player and a coach, Jason has always represented South Australia with passion and positivity," he said.<\/p>\n

"We are extremely grateful for the dedication he has shown to South Australian cricket over a remarkably long period of time.<\/p>\n

He has been a genuine leader both on and off the field and we wish him every success in the future."<\/p>\n

Gillespie will officially end his time at SACA in June.<\/p>\n

"I am incredibly proud of what we achieved together at the SACA, and I will always cherish those memories. I do not doubt that South Australian cricket has a bright future," Gillespie said.<\/p>\n

"I would like to thank everyone for their support during my time with the Strikers and Redbacks, it has been a true team effort. To be able to play and coach in my home state has been a wonderful experience, something I feel honoured to have achieved.<\/p>\n

"Looking forward, I am excited to explore new opportunities in the sport and pursue the next chapter in my career."<\/p>\n
