S\ufeffam Walker<\/a> will take the field for the Roosters<\/a> on Thursday night, despite the halfback being ruled out in round three with category one concussions symptoms.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old was forced from the field during the second half of his side's win over the Rabbitohs following an accidental elbow from Jack Wighton<\/a>, with the independent doctor ruling Walker could take no further part in the match. \ufeff<\/p>\n

However, in the days that followed, Walker was downgraded to a category two after passing his head injury assessment and only battling neck pain, which is where the blow from Wighton made contact.<\/p>\n

Speaking to media prior to a blockbuster against reigning premiers Penrith, head coach Trent Robinson<\/a> explained the turnaround that allowed Walker to be cleared.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It was instigated by our doctors almost immediately, because of what they saw on the field and when they came off," he said.<\/p>\n

"When he was ruled out in-game, it was questioned and then they went through the right processes. There wasn't any on-field symptoms.<\/p>\n

"To go to a category one we felt was too far and obviously the NRL saw that, which was a positive process. It could have been costly within the game as well.<\/p>\n

"I think that got rectified quite quickly."<\/p>\n

Walker's halves partner Luke Keary<\/a> is set to return from a mandatory 11-day stand-down against the Panthers, with Robinson backing the NRL's concussion protocols depsite the slight mishap against the Bunnies. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's a good process because they are independent," the coach said.<\/p>\n

"It's very rare, but when they over-correct a little bit like they did \u2026 I think there's been a couple of occasions there where it's been reversed. That was a positive, because Sam wasn't concussed or wasn't even close.<\/p>\n

"He had a sore neck, but not a sore head."<\/p>\n

Walker and Keary's presence in the No.6 and No.7 jumpers will be a major boost for the Tricolours, with young gun Sandon Smith (elbow) and front-rower Lindsay Collins (hamstring) both sidelined due to injury.<\/p>\n

Smith played over 40 minutes with a significant ligament injury to his elbow and will now spend at least a month on the sidelines, while Collins could return in round five.<\/p>\n
