Former Wallaby Morgan Turinui has declared that he "hates" golden point after the Waratahs became the second Australian team to suffer heartbreak in extra time this season.<\/a><\/p>\n

Super Rugby followed the NRL's lead in 2022 to introduce golden point to decide games that were all square at the end of 80 minutes.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Don't get me started on golden point. I hate it," Turinui said on Stan Sport's Between Two Posts<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"It doesn't suit rugby, I reckon it's stupid. Mate, they earned the draw, give them the draw.\ufeff Take two points each and go home."<\/p>\n

Turinui argued that golden point was a fairer and more appropriate way to decide games in NRL than it was in rugby.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Everything's a contest (in rugby), right? Say it's league, you get six tackles, kick, whatever, but every single contest – it means a referee decision is huge. You get one penalty, you get that territory, it's game over. And no one wants the ball, so it's just kick, kick, kick, kick, kick.<\/p>\n

"I don't like it particularly, I don't think our game suits it."<\/p>\n

Fellow ex-Wallaby Stephen Hoiles agreed that golden point should be reserved for finals games and \ufeffsaid officials in all codes tended to put the whistle away in high stakes, sudden death moments.<\/p>\n

"In the NFL, it used to be 85, 90 per cent of the time, the team who won the toss won extra time," Hoiles said.<\/p>\n
