Tennis<\/a> veteran Andy Murray<\/a> has vowed to return to the court despite suffering another bad injury.<\/p>\n

The 36-year-old announced via Instagram on Tuesday morning he has ruptured ligaments in his left ankle.<\/p>\n

Murray rolled his ankle during his Miami Open<\/a> loss to \ufeffTomas Machac.<\/p>\n

Machac beat Murray 5-7, 7-5, 7-6(5) in a match that lasted nearly three and a half hours.<\/p>\n

Murray landed awkwardly on his left ankle in the third set and immediately pulled up in pain, but finished the match after briefly having the injury checked.<\/p>\n

Despite his on-court heroics, Murray now faces more time in rehabilitation.<\/p>\n

"Yesterday towards the end of my match in Miami I suffered a full rupture of my ATFL (anterior talo-fibular ligament) and near full thickness rupture of my CFL (calcaneofibular ligament)," he posted.<\/p>\n

"I will see an ankle specialist when I return home to determine next steps.<\/p>\n

"Goes without saying this is a tough one to take and I'll be out for an extended period.<\/p>\n

"But I'll be back with one hip and no ankle ligaments when the time is right."<\/p>\n

Murray posted a winking emoji at the end of the caption.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe British great has undergone hip surgery in the past and flirted with retirement due to his injury battles.<\/p>\n

His situation appeared so dire that Australian Open organisers awkwardly played a farewell montage for him when he was bundled out of the 2019 Melbourne major.<\/p>\n

He has, though, as good as confirmed 2024 will be his final season on tour.<\/p>\n

After losing at the Miami Open, he confirmed he won't be returning to the tournament.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"This tournament particularly for me is an important one so it was a bit more emotional leaving the court today than it might be at some of the other events," he said.<\/p>\n

"I am looking forward to the end now, give my best the next few months and get to be at home with my family."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Retired American star Andy Roddick paid tribute to Murray after watching his former rival hobble off the court in Miami.<\/p>\n

"Since 2019, with the hip issue, he will tell you he hasn't been the same. But the guts of him have been the same," Roddick said on The Tennis Channel.<\/p>\n

"Even if he used to turn around these matches, and lately he hasn't been able to… the drama's still there, the fight is still there. In a weird way, I think this kind of compromised version of Murray almost adds to his legacy, the way he's grinded out the last four, five years.<\/p>\n

"I certainly respect it, I don't know that I could've done it. I don't know if a lot of us could've done it, so props to him if it is the last time we see him in Miami.<\/p>\n
