A\ufeff jarring admission from Ben Hunt<\/a> summed up the sad state of the Dragons<\/a>, with the side dropping a second-straight loss as their "resilience" came under the microscope.<\/p>\n

Despite taking an early 18-4 lead against the Cowboys<\/a> and appearing in the box-seat to secure a much-needed win, St George Illawarra bombed a number of chances<\/a> and allowed the visitors to pile on six unanswered tries to record a 46-24 result.<\/p>\n

Zac Lomax, Raymond Faitala-Mariner, Tyrell Sloan and Kyle Flanagan all butchered try-scoring opportunities in crucial moments, with their defensive efforts unable to withstand a star-studded North Queensland outfit in the second half.<\/p>\n

But it was six words from the Red V captain that could be an indictment of how much work Shane Flanagan<\/a> still has to do, with Hunt claiming his side 'didn't listen' to him during their on-field capitulation.<\/p>\n

"We just talked about doing it one set at a time [when the Cowboys scored] … you just try to narrow that focus," he said in the press conference.<\/p>\n

"But I guess whatever I said didn't really matter, they were just marching down the field and scoring points. We just didn't show enough resilience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We've shown glimpses of where we can play some really good footy and then we switch off for five or 10 minutes \u2026 we fall to pieces."<\/p>\n

While the hosts only made one more error than the Cowboys, it was their failure to defend those mistakes that proved to be the difference on the scoreboard.<\/p>\n

Flanagan conceded the Faitala-Mariner dropped ball over the tryline – which would have put the Dragons up by 20 points – was the turning point and urged his side to match their attacking capabilities with similar levels of defence.<\/p>\n

"If we go to 24-4 there, it would have been a really nice headstart and maybe the opposition start to look at the scoreboard," he said.<\/p>\n

"It happened four times \u2026 we got over the tryline and something didn't go right for us. They are good signs, but we need to show more resilience defensively.<\/p>\n

"If something goes wrong for us, we just let them march up the field and they got points.\u00a0We need to show a little bit more resilience.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We're our own worst enemy at some points."<\/p>\n
