The Hurricanes<\/a> have remained undefeated leaving the Rebels<\/a> to mull over back-to-back matches in which they've conceded 50 points.<\/p>\n

After their 53-26 drubbing at the hands of the Reds<\/a> in Melbourne, the Rebels nearly matched that with a 54-28 loss to the Hurricanes in Palmerston North.<\/p>\n

It was the same story as round four. The Rebels conceded points in the first half only to mount something of a comeback in the second 40.<\/p>\n

Again, it was too little too late. The damage was done in the first 40 and so the Hurricanes romped to an easy win.<\/p>\n

Such was the first-half performance from the Rebels that All Blacks legend Justin Marshall labelled them contest one of "Men against boys"\ufeff.<\/p>\n

Rebels head coach Kevin Foote was left to rue the result.<\/p>\n

"I think it's the way we've been playing at the start of Super Rugby \u2013 we're not starting very well and then we're showing a lot of character to come back," he explained.<\/p>\n

"That was 21-all, the second half. It's the start of the game that we've got to get right.<\/p>\n

"No one is making errors on purpose. It's something we work at, but you can't start Super Rugby like that, especially in New Zealand and we know that. We've got to keep looking.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"The guys are showing a lot of character and that's all you can ask for. At this stage, if they show character we'll keep rocking up as a coaching team and being there for them.<\/p>\n

"We'll find a way."\u00a0<\/p>\n

Rebels captain Rob Leota added, "We knew it was going to be tough coming over here, but we had a real focus on ourselves to really build on last week's performance.<\/p>\n

"Just those big moments, we've just got to stay in it. We know that's a big work on for us.<\/p>\n

"There were some positives to take out of today. It's just those big moments where we're fatigued."<\/p>\n

The Hurricanes scored eight tries in all to the Rebels' four.<\/p>\n

Salesi Rayasi and Jordie Barrett each scored two tries for the Hurricanes.<\/p>\n

It was a welcomed return for Barrett after his suspension for a dangerous tackle earlier in the competition.<\/p>\n

"It's great to be back," said Barrett.<\/p>\n

"We had a massive challenge tonight. The Rebels are a great side. They play a lot of rugby and have been going through a bit of adversity as a franchise and we knew they were just going to keep turning up for each other. It's tough mettle."<\/p>\n

Returning captain Brad Shields was elated with the result and the opportunity to play for the team.<\/p>\n

"It's pretty special," he said.<\/p>\n

"I wasn't sure if I was ever going to make it back to the Canes but as it turned out I get to come back and have a little run around, blow the cobwebs out," he said.<\/p>\n

"I'm extremely proud to put the Hurricanes jersey on. It's pretty special, not just for me but for my whole family as well, so it's awesome."<\/p>\n

The Hurricanes will head to Dunedin to play the Highlanders in round six while the Rebels will head to Sydney to play the Waratahs.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
