The visitors made 14 errors and missed 33 tackles en route to another disappointing defeat, placing the microscope firmly on Jason Demetriou<\/a> and his coaching future.<\/p>\n

Speaking post-game, Johns admitted the decision to change halfbacks from Lachlan Ilias to Dean Hawkins<\/a> had no reflection on the result, instead urging the Bunnies to look in the mirror in a bid to turn their campaign around.<\/p>\n

"That's the least of their problems – it wouldn't matter who you had in the halves tonight," the champion halfback said on the Nine broadcast.<\/p>\n

"There's no easy way out. To win a game in the NRL, you've got to build a game early.<\/p>\n

"Another big thing is discipline. First play of the game, Lindsay Collins charges off the kickoff and South Sydney rake at the ball. That gives you an insight into their mindset."<\/p>\n

\ufeffIlias produced a match-winning display in NSW Cup prior to the first grade fixture, while Hawkins was unable to lift the cardinal and myrtle over the top of their bitter rivals.<\/p>\n

Latrell Mitchell<\/a> was sin-binned in the second-half for a professional foul on James Tedesco, while the likes of Cody Walker and Jack Wighton struggled to make an impact with ball in hand as the errors continued to mount. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Billy Slater<\/a> pointed out the efforts of Souths captain Cameron Murray when criticising the side's efforts against the Roosters and urged teammates to follow him.<\/p>\n

"There are no shortcuts back into form," he said on Nine.<\/p>\n

"I think it starts with honesty from individuals within their team and effort. They've got to look at their own performances and collective performances as a team, and find our the effort areas that aren't working.<\/p>\n

"It all comes from selflessness and working for the team and it's got to come from your best players. I look at Latrell Mitchell, Cody Walker, Damien Cook \u2026 maybe look at Cam Murray's game and emulate that.<\/p>\n

"If you start competing on every play, that's when you will start turning your form around. There is no easy way out and they've got to look within."<\/p>\n
