Socceroos<\/a> coach Graham Arnold<\/a> has urged towering defender Harry Souttar to consider leaving his English club\ufeff in order to get more regular game time.<\/p>\n

Souttar will line up for Australia in Sydney on Thursday to take on Lebanon in another World Cup qualifier.<\/p>\n

But on the eve of the match Arnold took aim at Leicester City – the second division team which has only handed Souttar two starts in all competitions this season.<\/p>\n

Arnold has generally been staunch in his edict that players must be starring at club level in order to gain Socceroos selection.<\/p>\n

But he's made exceptions for Souttar, who stands at two metres tall and has a knack for scoring goals for Australia, particularly from corners given his height.<\/p>\n

However, the coach suggested Souttar needs to find a new club sooner rather than later in order to ensure his Socceroos career continues.<\/p>\n

"He's so important to the (Socceroos)," Arnold said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"And with the size of him, he's (one of our) leading goalscorers \u2026 and he's a leader. In that (centre back) position, he's crucial in what we need.<\/p>\n

"I know he's going through a tough time at Leicester. I had a good chat with him today.<\/p>\n

"He has to fix it. This can't go on forever, but what we are doing probably at the moment is helping his career by giving him match minutes during these FIFA (international) windows and showing what he can do.<\/p>\n

"But as a side to him today, this next transfer window is going to be really crucial for him."<\/p>\n

Souttar, 25, was poached by Leicester from Stoke for a $26 million fee following his heroics for Australia at the 2022 FIFA World Cup.<\/p>\n

\"Harry<\/p>\n

But the club has given him the cold shoulder of late – a fact Souttar is not shy \ufeffabout speaking to.<\/p>\n

"For my personal situation, I'm very grateful I'm still getting the opportunity to play for the national team," he told CODE Sports this week.<\/p>\n

"In terms of my mindset, it's being the best teammate I can be, helping the lads and making sure my training levels are as good as they can be."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
