Morgan Turinui believes Friday night's clash with the high flying Hurricanes will be the ultimate litmus test for the reeling Rebels<\/a>.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The cash strapped Rebels will again be without star recruit Filipo Daugunu<\/a>\ufeff as a dispute over $7000 of relocation costs rumbles on.<\/p>\n

Daugunu missed last week's 53-26 loss to the Reds<\/a> for "personal reasons" and the former Wallabies winger was also absent for Monday's training session in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

Daugunu returned to training on Tuesday \ufeffbut that was not enough to earn a spot on the plane to New Zealand on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"The player and his agent made a decision," Turinui said on Stan Sport's The Call U<\/em>p.<\/p>\n

"If you're owed money at some stage, if you get sick of not getting it, I suppose you have to do something drastic.<\/p>\n

"I think lots of fans, especially Rebels fans at home, would go 'jeez, surely there was a better way than costing your team.'<\/p>\n

"I obviously feel for a player there, who got to a point where he thought 'I've got no other option.'<\/p>\n

"But having let it get that far is a bad sign.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

The 2-2 Rebels sit seventh on the Super Rugby Pacific ladder while the 4-0 Hurricanes are the competition's only unbeaten team.<\/p>\n

\ufeffHurricanes coach Clark Laidlaw has made a whopping 13 changes to his starting XV but has the luxury of welcoming back captain Brad Shields from injury and centre Jordie Barrett from suspension.<\/p>\n

"You go back to good environments versus poor environments. This is actually a really good test to see what that Rebels environment's really like," former Rebels assistant coach Turinui said.<\/p>\n

"Good environments go on the road with a challenge and they do well, poor environments can struggle. If this gets ugly, it's a little bit of a veil lifted on this Rebels organisation."<\/p>\n

Rebels coach Kevin Foote surprisingly opted to drop Taniela Tupou back to the bench for the Palmerston North clash.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"They'll want more out of Taniela. They'll want more out of some of their recruits," Turinui said.<\/p>\n

"I thought Sam Talakai was good, actually, when he came on (for Tupou last week). I think he's (Tupou) probably come into the season a little bit underdone training wise, a couple of niggles."<\/p>\n
