M\ufeffatthew Lloyd<\/a> says he loves that Bombers<\/a> coach Brad Scott<\/a> has urged his team to play with an "Essendon edge" in 2024.<\/p>\n

The Bombers started their season off on the right foot, defeating rivals Hawthorn by 24 points<\/a> at the MCG in round one.<\/p>\n

\ufeffEssendon were fiery from the second they set foot on the MCG, with Kane Cornes also noticing how the Bombers got under Hawthorn skipper James Sicily's skin from the first minute.<\/p>\n

Scott explained that the ferocity that was on display in round one is something his side are keen to repeat throughout the season, as they look to break their 20-year finals win hoodoo.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"We've been very explicit that we want the Essendon edge," Scott said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

\"Brad<\/p>\n

"I think all Essendon people and people who have followed our club for a long period of time know what an Essendon edge looks like, and we want that – but we want to be totally in control of what we're doing.<\/p>\n

"I thought for the large part of the game, we did that pretty well against Hawthorn.<\/p>\n

However, Scott admitted that there is still a lot of tweaking to do to perfect their edge, that they plan to utilise to distract and pick apart their opponents.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"When you play an aggressive contact, combative sport like AFL football players play on the edge, and we want that edge, but we aren't gonna go over the line either," he said.<\/p>\n

"So we got that right at times on the weekend, we got that wrong at times. So we'll continue to find the line and what the Essendon edge looks like."<\/p>\n

Lloyd declared he simply "loves" what Essendon has brought to the table so far.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I love the Essendon edge,\ufeff" Lloyd said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Wednesday night.<\/p>\n

\ufeffIt came after Cornes broke down the strategy that saw Essendon reduce Sicily to just 11 disposals in round one<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"The point is, excellent coaching strategy from Brad (Scott) to go after a susceptible player (Sicily)," Cornes said on Monday night.<\/p>\n

"This guy (Sicily) averages 26 touches for a game\ufeff, he's an All-Australian last year. He's now had 11 (disposals), got reported and had two (goals) kicked on him.<\/p>\n

"Hopefully the other teams have seen that and for him (Sicily), bad luck, you're going to cop that treatment all year\ufeff."<\/p>\n
