I\ufeffn a heartbreaking update for Richmond<\/a> fans, premiership midfielder Dion Prestia has been ruled out for up to 10 weeks with a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old suffered the \ufeffinjury against Carlton in their round one clash, going down in the opening term.<\/p>\n

Prestia has not played a full season since 2019, with fears that he won't have his contract renewed come season's end.<\/p>\n

It's a cruel blow for the Tigers, who also fell five points short of overcoming the Blues in their second match of the season.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Dion was going for a ground ball late in the first quarter and hurt his hamstring," Richmond's performance manager Luke Meehan said on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

"Follow-up scans have unfortunately showed significant damage.<\/p>\n

"It's looking like a long-term injury for Dion, we're looking at an 8-10 week period of him being out."<\/p>\n

Prestia has suffered a plethora of\ufeff soft tissue injuries that have restricted his career in the last five seasons.<\/p>\n

He played in all three of Richmond's recent flags under former coach Damien Hardwick in 2017, 2019 and 2020.<\/p>\n

Richmond has lost yet another key cog in their team, with youngster Josh Gibcus rupturing his ACL in a heartbreaking end to his 2024 season<\/a>\ufeff.<\/p>\n

Gibcus burst onto the scene and played 18 games in 2022. A complicated hamstring tendon injury restricted him to only one appearance last season.<\/p>\n
