Tasmania<\/a> captain Jordan Silk<\/a> has declared all-rounder Beau Webster should be 'front and centre' for Australian selection if Mitch Marsh<\/a> was ever unavailable.<\/p>\n

Webster is coming off a career-best campaign, \ufeffand was voted player of the season in the Sheffield Shield<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old became the fourth player in the competition's history to score 900 runs and take 25 wickets. Silk finished the season with 914 runs at 65.28 to finish top of the runscorers chart after a 167 not out against Victoria two matches before the final.<\/p>\n

Webster told media in Hobart before the final that "the aspiration is to play for your country" and Silk believes he should be in contention. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"He's a hundred maker \ufeffand he bats at six and bowls overs, I think I've heard Wadey (Matthew Wade) talk about it, if Mitch Marsh is to go down then it'd be hard to look past someone like Beau at the moment with the batting numbers he's providing there but then also 25 wickets in Shield cricket as well so it's hard to ignore," he said.<\/p>\n

"He's definitely, I'm sure, front and centre in conversations if there's an injury there and that's exactly how it should be at the moment."<\/p>\n

Throughout the Shield season, Webster hit three centuries and had best bowling figures of 4\/32.<\/p>\n

Webster's season put him in company with the legendary Sir Garfield Sobers who achieved the 900 runs and 25 wickets tally in the 1963-64 season with South Australia. The other two are Tom Moody and Norm O'Neill\ufeff.<\/p>\n

\ufeffSilk said it was "hard to fathom" how successful his teammate had been over the season.<\/p>\n

"I've never seen someone punch out those sort of numbers in my career so it's a credit to him, he's worked really hard," he said.<\/p>\n

"He's sacrificed a bit, he went away last off season to continue playing cricket and got some opportunities in county cricket over there.<\/p>\n

"He was super consistent for us at the start of the year and then to hold on to that momentum and make a couple of hundreds late in the year, he's been awesome and at times no doubt put us on his back and brought us to this position so we're very thankful for him and the season he's had.<\/p>\n
