A\ufeffn emotional Brendan Fevola<\/a> has opened up on his regrets during his AFL<\/a> career that came to a sad end in 2010.<\/p>\n

Fevola was inducted into Carlton<\/a>'s hall of fame on Monday night, a fitting honour for the man who played 187 games in the navy blue and booted 575 goals.<\/p>\n

The former forward's career was an impressive one that was tarnished by his off field behaviour that cost him in multiple ways.<\/p>\n

At the end of 2009, Carlton traded him to the Brisbane Lions<\/a>, after his antics during the Brownlow Medal that year.<\/p>\n

Fevola famously \ufeffbecame intoxicated during the event and harassed star teammate Chris Judd, with his behavour so poor the Blues felt they had to remove him from their club.<\/p>\n

The 43-year-old went on to play just 17 games for the Lions during his final season in 2010, kicking 48 goals\ufeff and finishing his career on 204 games.<\/p>\n

Further off field controversy during the pre-season saw Brisbane sack him on the eve of the 2011 season.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Now, 14 years after his career came to a close, Fevola can finally reflect properly.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Because I was such an idiot in my footy career, I left Carlton and didn't get a last game, didn't get a send-off, didn't go to the best-and-fairest because it was just after the (2009) Brownlow," Fevola said on his radio show Fifi, Fev and Nick<\/em> on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

"Then I went to Brisbane, didn't get a last game, didn't get invited to the best and fairest, got sacked, and then the AFL never gave me a lap of honour … you know how all the retired players go around the ground for a lap of honour (on grand final day)? Never got one of them because they didn't want me to do it."<\/p>\n

His behaviour is something he deeply regrets, with Fevola using the Blues hall of fame event to make it up to his wife Alex, parents, brother and children.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I never really got a send-off that every other player has, and gets to speak to the players beforehand," he said.<\/p>\n

"So I said to (my) girls before we went down to the (Carlton hall of fame) that this was my retirement.<\/p>\n

\"Fevola<\/p>\n

"This was like saying 'thank you', because my parents and my family never got that chance to see me or hear me do my last speech or (play) my last game.<\/p>\n

"I was so grateful I go to do that in front of them because I never got the chance to because of what I did back when I was a silly boy.<\/p>\n

"So I was really, really, really emotional.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Fevola was Carlton's leading goalkicker from 2003 to 2009, winning the Coleman medal in 2006 and 2009 for his efforts in front of goal.\ufeff<\/p>\n
