L\ufeffuke Metcalf<\/a> has knocked back advances from rival NRL<\/a> clubs to remain with the New Zealand Warriors<\/a> on a fresh two-year deal.<\/p>\n

The Coffs Harbour born five-eighth has started both games in the No.6 jumper for the Auckland-based franchise this season, showing glimpses into his enormous potential.<\/p>\n

Metcalf endured an interrupted 2023 campaign due to hamstring injuries, but now appears to be the club's long-term option in the crucial playmaking role, beating out the likes of Te Maire Martin and Chanel Harris-Tavita.<\/p>\n

In a statement released on Monday, the 25-year-old claimed the extension to remain with the Warriors was a "no-brainer" as he looks to build on his early promise.<\/p>\n

"I don't see myself going anywhere else," Metcalf said.<\/p>\n

"I'm genuinely really happy here at the Warriors and here in New Zealand. My partner loves it and we have something special building so it was a no-brainer. I always just wanted someone to show me a bit of love and back me as a player.<\/p>\n

"Obviously I have to put the hard work in myself but when Webby [Andrew Webster] had that chat with me and let me know like 'hey we want you here long term' I knew in my heart extending here is what I wanted to do.<\/p>\n

"I can't wait to re-pay the faith they've shown in me."<\/p>\n

Metcalf revealed he 'grew up idolising' halves partner Shaun Johnson<\/a> and believes the pair are 'building something special' as they search for a maiden NRL premiership.<\/p>\n

Webster \ufeffwas full of praise for the speedster and believes there is plenty of highlights left in store for Warriors fans in the future.<\/p>\n

"The talent is there for everyone to see so from a football perspective – that's exciting for us and for the fans," the coach said.<\/p>\n

"Beyond that Luke is exactly the type of person we want here at the club and we're excited for him to continue to learn and develop under our staff and through the senior players he has around him."<\/p>\n
