Formula 1<\/a> icon Eddie Jordan has tipped Alpine<\/a> to sell up after its "embarrassing" start to the 2024 season.<\/p>\n

After two races, both Pierre Gasly<\/a> and Esteban Ocon<\/a> have no points to their credit.<\/p>\n

Gasly sits 21st and last in the drivers' championship after finishing 18th in Bahrain and retiring in Saudi Arabia. Ocon, meanwhile, is 17th overall after finishes of 17th and 13th.<\/p>\n

Last year, Gasly began the season with back-to-back points finishes while Ocon scored points in the second outing.<\/p>\n

It's reason for concern with the Enstone-based outfit not giving either of its off-contract drivers enough reason to stay on board.<\/p>\n

The substantial dip in year-on-year form could see Alpine pull the plug entirely.<\/p>\n

Alpine is a subsidiary of Renault, which rebranded its factory F1 team in 2021.<\/p>\n

Jordan has tipped the team to withdraw from the sport unless its form swings significantly.<\/p>\n

An exit is made easier by the fact Renault isn't supplying engines to any other teams.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Speaking on the Formula For Success podcast, Jordan said new regulations to be introduced in 2026 are a sore point for the French manufacturer.<\/p>\n

"I find it embarrassing to watch Gasly and Ocon who are capable of winning races," said Jordan.<\/p>\n

"Do I see Alpine in the current vision, do I see them there next year? Absolutely not. Not a chance.<\/p>\n

"I think it's wide open for a sale. Renault have pulled back from it, they don't want to spend the money on the engine.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"The engine for 2026 is such a big outlay in terms of development or cost. It's frightening them even though the value of the team \u2014 they talk about \u00a31 billion for a team.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Alpine have been disgraceful in terms of not being able to perform for their drivers, for their team, to give them that car to compete in the championship.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It's unacceptable. I wouldn't put up with it. It would be shocking."<\/p>\n

David Coulthard labelled the team "faceless" in the wake of Otmar Szafnauer's axing last year.<\/p>\n

Szafnauer was largely blamed for failing to secure Oscar Piastri's services and allowing Fernando Alonso to leave the team to join Aston Martin.<\/p>\n

Alpine motorsport vice president Bruno Famin was installed as the team principal but has largely kept a low profile in contrast to the outspoken Szafnauer.<\/p>\n

Jordan, whose F1 team eventually morphed into the Aston Martin outfit, said a lot of Alpine's lacklustre form lies with the decision to axe Szafnauer.<\/p>\n

"I think they got rid of Ottmar prematurely," said Jordan.<\/p>\n

"I think that was a mistake. He is a talented person certainly who knew how to keep that team in the right direction.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"The results that he had or very soon after they let him go were very indicative of where somebody had left a platform of a style of management that they could embrace.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"At the moment, they are the most floundering team, it is absolutely embarrassing."<\/p>\n
