P\ufeffort Adelaide<\/a> has rained on West Coast Eagles<\/a> No.1 draft pick Harley Reid<\/a>'s parade, keeping the youngster quiet as they went on to record a 50-point win in front of their home crowd at Adelaide Oval.<\/p>\n

Reid has been in the spotlight since even before he was drafted to the AFL at the end of 2023, \ufeffbeing selected by the Eagles and quickly becoming a beacon of hope for hopeful fans.<\/p>\n

However, after a pretty strong first quarter that saw him collect eight disposals, Reid was held to just eight more touches for the rest of the game.<\/p>\n

Reid\ufeff was lauded by Eagles coach Adam Simpson for his efforts in absorbing the pressure in round one.<\/p>\n

"We will keep working through him, he's a good kid and pretty resilient," Simpson said post match.<\/p>\n

"He looked like he picked up the pace of the game really well."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Meantime, the Power kicked 16.24, the most ever behinds they've kicked in their history in the AFL.\ufeff<\/p>\n

However, their experienced players stood up against West Coast\ufeff.<\/p>\n

Port skipper Connor Rozee collected 27 touches, while Charlie Dixon booted three majors.<\/p>\n

Simpson said the club acknowledges they're not in the position to compete against the top teams of the league, but have already noticed the holes they need to fill\ufeff going forward.<\/p>\n

"We have 13 front half turnovers and you're not going to compete with that kind of result. Port had a good system, we got exposed today," Simpson said.<\/p>\n

Despite the loss to start their 2024 campaign, Simpson has confirmed the club is united through the good times and bad, willing to ride the wave of a rebuild.<\/p>\n

"We are trying to forge a new identity. There are some things we did well, and some things we did poorly," Simpson said.<\/p>\n
