G\ufeffeelong<\/a> champion Joel Selwood<\/a> opened the club's new stand, named in his honour, in style as his former side commemorated the special night with a gusty victory over St Kilda<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The Cats held off the fast finishing Saints to record an eight-point victory.\ufeff<\/p>\n

It wasn't a pretty win by any means, but it was an emotional night for the city of Geelong and the faithful fans.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Selwood was presented to the crowd, as he kicked a ceremonial goal to open the stand\ufeff named after him.<\/p>\n

"Thanks for a special night," Selwood said on Instagram.<\/p>\n

\"Joel<\/p>\n

"Not in my wildest dreams did I think this would happen."<\/p>\n

Selwood is the Geelong games record holder with 355 games and is the Cats' only four-time premiership player.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Geelong's youngsters took on their new roles in front of their home crowd, with Tanner Bruhn, Jhye Clark, Max Holmes and Ollie Dempsey stepping up to the plate.<\/p>\n

Cats coach Chris Scott lauded 19-year-old Clark's ferocity around the football.<\/p>\n

"Jhye Clark was really good," Scott said post match.<\/p>\n

"He's played one game but only played 20 minutes in that game before he got hurt, so this was really his first full game of AFL football.<\/p>\n

"I just thought he looked like he belonged out there."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Meantime, Matthew Lloyd also heaped praise on forward Dempsey<\/a>, who booted three goals in just his eighth game at senior level.<\/p>\n

\"Ollie<\/p>\n

"Last night, I thought he was the most influential player on the ground\ufeff when they set up the win," Lloyd said on Nine's Sunday Footy Show.<\/em><\/p>\n

"He's got class, \ufeffhe's confident in himself, he knows where the goals are, he sets them up and he creates them."\ufeff<\/p>\n
