N\ufefforth Melbourne<\/a> young gun Josh Goater has been left "distraught" after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in the side's loss to GWS.<\/a><\/p>\n

The 20-year-old was helped from the field after he collapsed in the fourth quarter and clutched at his lower leg following an innocuous moment.<\/p>\n

Replays showed a textbook mechanism for an Achilles rupture, with Goater pushing off his back foot bef\ufeffore falling straight to the ground in pain.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

Fox Footy commentator Nathan Buckley sympathised with the talented prospect, who has had limited appearances for the Kangaroos since making his AFL<\/a> debut in 2022.<\/p>\n

"He's distressed and distraught," the commentator said.<\/p>\n

"What would be dawning on him is he's got a long time out of the game, which is a shame.\ufeff He's had a big pre-season and he's actually played really well today.<\/p>\n

"You can't help but have your thoughts go to his family … the sinking feeling in your guts and the pain seeing one of your loved ones go through this.<\/p>\n

"It's inevitable, it's part of the industry, but it's not great to watch. Bad luck for the kid."<\/p>\n

North \ufeffput up a spirited performance in the 121-82 loss away from home against the Giants as head coach Alastair Clarkson<\/a> continues to attempt to turn the club around.<\/p>\n

The loss of Goater \ufeffleft the coach disappointed post-game and admitted his 2024 campaign was likely over before it every truly began.<\/p>\n

"Josh is a young player in his third year of footy," Clarkson said.<\/p>\n

"If that's a ruptured Achilles I dare say his season's done which is so sad.<\/p>\n
