T\ufeffhe AFL<\/a>'s new flying fox camera, which has been introduced to MCG games for the 2024 season, has been slammed after it impeded play during Sydney and Collingwood's Friday night clash.<\/p>\n

The camera, which moves above the ground on wires, is usually only used on AFL Grand Final day.<\/p>\n

However, it has appeared across two games in round one at the MCG so far, including Thursday night's blockbuster against Carlton and Richmond.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The ball was kicked high enough to hit the camera on Thursday night, with\ufeff the AFL reportedly satisfied with how the situation continued despite the obstruction.<\/p>\n

"What are we doing about this and who is responsible?," Garry Lyon asked on Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

"In cricket, we've got a rule when it hits the roof, what are we doing when it hits the flying fox (camera)?"<\/p>\n

"I thought, 'What has happened there?," Dermott Brereton added.<\/p>\n

It comes after the league reportedly adapted their flying fox rulings in the off-season.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The AFL actually changed their guidelines over summer given the skycam was to be used more at games," Jon Ralph said on X.<\/p>\n

"The official rule is that if the umpires see the ball hit the skycam they will stop play and throw the ball up. No one saw it hit the camera tonight so play proceeded. The AFL happy with how it played out."<\/p>\n

The ball also hit the flying fox camera during Thursday's game between Carlton and Richmond.<\/p>\n
