Nick Kyrgios<\/a> has opened up on his current "struggle" with injury as he works towards his comeback to the tennis<\/a> court.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios sat out this year's Australian Open<\/a> after a lengthy run of injuries hampered his 2023 season.<\/p>\n

Posting a photo of himself in the gym to Instagram \u2014 his head bowed low in concentration \u2014 Kyrgios said the \ufeffimage reminds him of "the struggle" he has endured recently.<\/p>\n

"Two surgeries over the past year and a half after being so close to a grand slam [title]," he wrote in the picture's caption on Friday.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios reached his first and so-far only major final \ufeffat Wimbledon in 2022, going down to Novak Djokovic 4-6, 6-3, 6-4, 7-6(3) in the decider.<\/p>\n

He was then sent packing by Karen Khachanov in the quarter finals of the 2022 US Open before being sidelined with a knee injury.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old only managed one match last year after his season was cruelled by repeat setbacks.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios pulled out of the 2023 Australian Open before undergoing arthroscopic \ufeffknee surgery<\/a><\/p>\n

He later had his comeback plans at SW19 derailed after he tore a ligament in his right wrist<\/a>. He subsequently withdrew from the US Open and was unable to recover in time for the 2024 Australian Open after having wrist surgery.<\/p>\n

In his post, the fan-favourite explicitly declared he would not give up on his return to the court \u2014 no matter how long it may take.<\/p>\n

"Let this be a reminder that I'm not giving up," he wrote.<\/p>\n

"I'm taking this process day by day and it's allowed me to take full advantage of other amazing things in my life, opportunities I would never have known if I hadn't gotten injured."<\/p>\n

With words of encouragement,\ufeff Kyrgios called on his followers to persevere through challenging times of their own.<\/p>\n

"If you feel like you are struggling or feeling as if you don't know what's next, just take the next step you see and make sure it's in the right direction," he wrote.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old \ufeffsent the tennis world into a spin during January's Australian Open after hinting that he may have played his last professional match.<\/p>\n

"The reality is, there is a part of me that knows my time in the sport may be over. And I'm OK with that," he wrote in a column for The Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>.<\/p>\n
