Canterbury<\/a> want to sign Eels<\/a> star Ryan Matterson for 2022 – and have taken a significant step towards their goal by linking up with NSW Cup team Mounties as their feeder club.<\/p>\n

Playing for Mounties is none other than Ryan's younger brother Dean, who starred in a weekend trial against Penrith.<\/p>\n

A 23-year-old five-eighth, Dean is extremely close to Ryan, who is three years older, and the pair have a goal of playing together in the NRL.<\/p>\n

The duo have played one match together – for the Roosters in a trial in 2018 – before going their separate ways.<\/p>\n

Ryan went to the Tigers and now Eels, while Dean moved to Wyong Roos, Blacktown Workers and now Mounties.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs have placed Ryan at the top of their wish list for next year – and having his brother on board may prove a major step to achieving their goal.<\/p>\n

ROOSTERS ROOKIE BURSTS ON TO MARKET<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Things move quickly in rugby league – just ask Roosters rookie Ronald Volkman.<\/p>\n

A young halfback who is in the shadow of Sam Walker and Lachlan Lam, Volkman was given a chance to show his stuff by Roosters coach Trent Robinson in the first grade trial against the Tigers at Camden last weekend.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old Waverley College product scored two sensational solo tries – one from a chip and chase and the second from a length of the field intercept.<\/p>\n

Volkman comes off contract at the end of the season and from 9am Monday morning, his management company's phone has been running hot with calls from rival clubs.<\/p>\n

EX-MAROON LEFT HOMELESS AFTER SPLIT<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Former Queensland Origin forward and NRL hardman Kevin Campion has revealed he was reduced to living out of his car after an ugly divorce left him penniless five years ago.<\/p>\n

"I didn't put myself into a position to put a roof over the kids heads, so went through a difficult period," Campion, now aged 49, said.<\/p>\n

"I had to go through courts to get access to my kids.<\/p>\n

"One day, I was tucking the kids into bed every day \u2026 the next minute, I was living in my car and you know, trying to find somewhere to live.<\/p>\n

"Yeah, it was tough. I parked myself up near the Tugan Surf Club, that had public toilets and showers there, so yeah, it was tough. But it's not as tough as not seeing your kids every day.<\/p>\n

"That's just life I guess. A lot of people go through a lot more crap than I did.<\/p>\n

"A lot of my friends didn't know about my situation, but a select few knew and we're willing to help out."<\/p>\n

BOLTER COULD FILL TURBO'S BOOTS<\/strong><\/h2>\n

There's a rank outsider that Manly are considering to start the season at fullback, following news yesterday that Tom Trbojevic has again broken down with hamstring issues.<\/p>\n

Former schoolboy sprint ace Tolutau Koula has joined the Sea Eagles' full-time squad over the summer and coach Des Hasler may consider gambling on the rookie.<\/p>\n

Brendan Elliott, who deputised for Turbo last season, has left the club, while two other players also had a shot at the prized No.1 jumper – Tevita Funa and Reuben Garrick – with only moderate success.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old Koula, who studied at Newington College last year, has pace to burn – and may be even faster than Trbojevic at his best.<\/p>\n

Hasler hasn't been afraid to roll the dice in the past and knows he needs to do something drastic.<\/p>\n

Over the past two seasons, Manly's win rate with Trbojevic is an impressive 74 per cent – without him it is a mere 30 per cent.<\/p>\n
