L\ufeffeague great Paul Vautin<\/a> believes Latrell Mitchell<\/a> needs to show more to satisfy Rabbitohs<\/a> fans after South Sydney's 18-28 loss to the Broncos<\/a> on Thursday night.<\/p>\n

A standout in a losing side, Mitchell finished the match with a brilliant individual try, 19 runs for 177 run metres, five tackle breaks and one line break in his 80 minutes on the field at Suncorp Stadium.<\/p>\n

On the flipside he\ufeff missed four tackles and was involved in a horror misjudgement that allowed Reece Walsh to score when the game was in the balance.<\/p>\n

Vautin argued that the fullback needs to take more ownership of the club's performance.<\/p>\n

"\ufeff[South Sydney] can't get more out of him. He has to do it himself. That's what he needs to do," Vautin told Nine's Thursday Night Knock-Off<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"He's a player that can do that\ufeff.<\/p>\n

"He can be\ufeff \u2014 he probably is, the best player at this club [but] Souths fans are screaming, for him and at him, 'C'mon Latrell, C'mom, have a run'.<\/p>\n

"We know what he is capable of \u2014 we see this all the time but it unfortunately doesn't happen enough for the Souths' fans liking."<\/p>\n

The Rabbitohs trailed by 12 points at the main break before \ufeffrallying in the second half to lock the scores at 12-12.<\/p>\n

Having looked clunky for long periods of the match, the Broncos' started to find their way in attack and they ran away from the visitors before Mitchell scored a consolation try at the death \u2014 the 100th of his career.<\/p>\n

"[Mitchell] ran 50 metres\ufeff and beat about eight," Vautin said of the final-minute try.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffSouth Syndey fans are going, 'Right, why doesn't he do that the whole game?' That's what they want to know.<\/p>\n

"He's\ufeff got the ability to do it and the fans are wondering."<\/p>\n

Fellow league great Darren Lockyer agreed<\/a> that Mitchell needed to have scoreboard impact "20 minutes \ufeffearlier" but argued that halfback Lachlan Ilias and five-eighth Cody Walker needed to throw open the door for his teammate.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffCody needs to unlock him," he said.<\/p>\n

\"Cody<\/p>\n

"\ufeffYou can get Latrell into the game if you can find space for him and Cody has a great pass on him.<\/p>\n

"We've seen \ufeffhis form the last couple of years and what he can do, and I just don't think he's getting the ball enough at the moment to do what he can do well."<\/p>\n

Johnathan Thurston also insisted that the Bunnies' halves need to take some responsibility.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThe halves need to take more control to get in the field position to give [Mitchell] the ball in space," he said.<\/p>\n

"Because we know how \ufeffdangerous he is, guys like [Brisbane's] Kotoni Staggs and Selwyn Cobbo, if he's out the back of that shape and they dig too deep in the line, they can just come out and shut him down.<\/p>\n

"They need to get the ball to him where he likes it and we know what he can do."<\/p>\n

Thurston also highlighted Mitchell's efforts in defence.<\/p>\n

"He's doing his bit from the back," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThe scoreline could have been 40 if he didn't stop those tries."<\/p>\n
