Young Tigers<\/a> defender Josh Gibcus' horror run with injury has continued.<\/p>\n

The 20-year-old is facing another season on the sidelines after suffering a suspected ACL injury in his side's five-point loss in a thriller against the Blues<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In the second quarter, Gibcus landed awkwardly after punching the ball away in a contest.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"This could be a bit of a tragedy here … that doesn't look great," Tigers legend Matthew Richardson said in commentary for Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

He was driven off the MCG<\/a> by the medicab.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It's a suspected ACL. We'll get an MRI tomorrow, but the poor kid deserves a break," Richmond's football boss Tim Livingstone said.<\/p>\n

"He battled all through last year with his head up, and he's praying for it, but it doesn't look good at the moment."<\/p>\n

Gibcus burst onto the scene and played 18 games in 2022. A complicated hamstring tendon injury restricted him to only one appearance last season.<\/p>\n

This latest blow left coach Adem Yze with a massive headache. It put the Tigers down a rotation having earlier lost Dion Prestia to a second hamstring injury in the space of six weeks.<\/p>\n

And it soon got worse \u2013 Tylar Young was ruled out in the third term with a concussion.<\/p>\n

But the rest of the match was a thriller \u2013 the Blues holding on 12.14 (86) to 12.9 (81). It was the Blues' sixth win in succession in matches decided by less than a goal.<\/p>\n

The lead changed 10 times and neither side held a lead of more than two goals.<\/p>\n

The Tigers were starting to tire midway through the final term, and the Blues had their chances to give themselves some breathing room.<\/p>\n

Instead, a pair of behinds \u2013 first from Charlie Curnow and then another from Jordan Boyd \u2013 kept the Tigers in touch.<\/p>\n

The Curnow one was particularly frustrating for Blues fans. He took the mark at the top of the square and elected to play on, but was tackled by Nick Vlastuin.<\/p>\n

Umpires elected to review the tackle to determine if Curnow got any boot to leather, but found insufficient evidence to overturn the on-field behind decision.<\/p>\n

Seth Campbell brought the Tigers to within a kick, but that was as good as it got. Both sides kicked only the one behind each before the final siren.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
