Winger Martin Boyle has been left out of the Socceroos<\/a>' extended squad for Australia's upcoming home FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Lebanon.<\/p>\n

Boyle was ruled out of the 25-player squad after he was concussed in a sickening head clash<\/a> during Hibernian FC's Scottish Cup quarter-final loss to Rangers FC on Monday.<\/p>\n

Boyle was rushed to hospital after colliding heavily with Rangers defender John Souttar while challenging in an aerial contest.<\/p>\n

Hibernian has since confirmed that Boyle has returned home from hospital.<\/p>\n

"[Boyle] was put through a thorough medical examination to understand the severity of the injury," a club statement read.<\/p>\n

"The tests thankfully came back all clear and revealed that Martin has a concussion. He will now rest at home and will follow the concussion protocol."<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old had been recalled to the Socceroos' squad in September after an ACL injury ended his last World Cup campaign.<\/p>\n

The squad\ufeff will take part in the Socceroos' two-game series against Lebanon, with matches to be played in Sydney and Canberra.<\/p>\n

The second qualifier \ufeffat GIO Stadium in Canberra on Tuesday, March 26 will be a designated home game for Lebanon.<\/p>\n

The Lebanese Football Association chose to play their home match on Australian soil because of \ufeffthe war in Gaza.<\/p>\n

Aziz Behich (calf), Aiden O'Neill (suspension\/ankle) and Marco Tilio (hamstring) have also been ruled out of the qualifiers with injury.<\/p>\n

Promising midfielder Patrick Yazbek \u2014 who was originally named in the Olyroos' squad for an upcoming tournament in Saudi Arabia \u2014 has been elevated to the senior team and could make his debut for the national side in either game.<\/p>\n

Creative midfielder Ajdin Hrustic has been named in his first Socceroos' squad since last June after a return to form with new club Eredivisie.<\/p>\n

Striker Adam Taggart and forward Bruno Fornaroli have also been recalled.<\/p>\n

Fellow forward Brandon Borrello returns to the squad after recovering from an ankle injury.<\/p>\n

Socceroos' coach Graham Arnold<\/a> admitted that while injuries had forced him into some changes, he was pleased to reward players who had been part of Australia's Asian Cup team.<\/p>\n

"We've gone with a similar squad to the one we took to the Asian Cup and they'll be prepared to face a side in Lebanon that have a lot to play for," he said in a statement.<\/p>\n

"It'll be a great test for the group and one I know they're very much looking forward to<\/p>\n

This month's men's international window will continue the second round of qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 to be held across Canada, Mexico and the United States.<\/p>\n

Australia's first qualifier against Lebanon will be played on Thursday, March\ufeff 21 at CommBank Stadium.<\/p>\n
