A\ufeffustralians are notoriously tough when it comes to combat sports – and rising UFC<\/a> star Jack Della Maddalena is the perfect example of that.<\/p>\n

The welterweight \ufeffproduced another stellar performance last weekend, defeating former title contender Gilbert Burns via knockout<\/a> at UFC 299 in Miami.<\/p>\n

Della Maddalena has now surged into the division's top-five, pushing himself closer to a world title opportunity against current champion, Leon Edwards.<\/p>\n

But his chances of fighting for UFC gold may have been put on the back-burner for a little while, with the Perth product suffering a broken arm during his win over Burns.<\/p>\n

According to his manager Tim Simpson, the 27-year-old sustained the injury \ufeffearly in the three-round fight, but managed to battle through and score a brutal knockout victory after a knee strike and a series of ground-and-pound punches and elbows.<\/p>\n

Simpson posted the X-rays of Della Maddalena's injury to social media, with surgeon's advice set to determine how long the Aussie fighter is sidelined for.<\/p>\n

Della Maddalena called out the undefeated Shavkat Rakhmonov following his seventh-straight UFC triumph, potentially setting up a title eliminator bout for later in the year.<\/p>\n

Despite a stacked roster, the welterweight title scene is in a tricky spot as it stands, with current champ Edwards without an opponent for his next defence, which has seen the likes of Rakhmonov\ufeff and Della Maddalena left stranded.<\/p>\n
