Collingwood<\/a> ruckman M\ufeffason Cox<\/a> has apologised for his pre-match antics in the lead-up to the Magpies' clash with GWS on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

It comes after Cox was slammed for his "bizarre" behaviour after interrupting the Giants' pre match warm up, shoving GWS ruck coach \ufeffShane Mumford in the back while competing in a mock ball-up exercise before the first bounce<\/a>.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Cox then received a please\ufeff explain from the AFL for his actions before the Giants 32-point victory<\/a> over the reigning premiers, according to 9News Melbourne.<\/p>\n

The Magpies \ufeffhave justified the 32-year-old's actions via a club statement on Monday, putting a share of the blame onto the Giants.<\/p>\n

"The umpire bounced the ball with Mason's run-up coinciding with GWS moving into the centre circle area. Mason elected to complete the drill, making contact with a Giants official," Collingwood's statement read.<\/p>\n

The 2023 premiership ruckman also clarified his actions, acknowledging that he did not read the moment correctly.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I apologise for the incident in our pre-game where I made contact with a GWS official," Cox said via a club statement on Monday.<\/p>\n

"In the moment, I was solely focused on getting one more bounce in \u2013 in hindsight, I should have stopped my run-up rather than completing the drill."<\/p>\n

Collingwood has backed Cox's apology despite his on-field antics that were questioned by the league, with Pies footy manager Brendan Bolton jumping to clarify the ruckman's movements when he interrupted the Giants' warm-up.<\/p>\n

"We have reviewed the situation and it is clear it was a period of transition in the centre circle, our rucks were completing their centre bounce practice as the GWS midfield arrived to commence their centre circle work," Bolton said in the club statement.<\/p>\n

"Mason has acknowledged that making contact with opposition officials or players pre-game should be avoided and with our club's support, will be more aware in future."\ufeff<\/p>\n

It's not the first time Cox has shaken up the Giants camp, after complaining last year about the location for the Opening Round match.<\/a>\ufeff<\/p>\n

In November, chief executive Andrew Dillon claimed the radical new format resulted from a unique opportunity to feature four matches in "major venues" up north.<\/p>\n

Cox was unimpressed to see the Pies scheduled at "a showground for livestock"<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffReacting to the announcement on X, Cox was critical of the decision to play the Pies' first match of the season at the purpose-built venue for the Sydney Royal Easter Show.<\/p>\n

"Round one NRL goes to Las Vegas. AFL premiers go to \u2026 A showground for livestock \u2026," Cox tweeted last year.<\/p>\n

In response, the Giants set up a petting zoo outside the ground with a cardboard cut out of Cox front and centre on Saturday.<\/p>\n

GWS small forward Brent Daniels, who kicked four goals in his side's win, also slammed Cox's actions.<\/p>\n

"Mason likes to say things that get a bit of a headline, he likes the limelight," he told Nine's The Sunday Footy Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"But what he did before the game I thought was really bizarre. Bit of carry on, I thought."<\/p>\n
