Red Bull Racing's<\/a> Sergio Perez<\/a> is in serious danger of being sidelined for a race after incurring another penalty point.<\/p>\n

The Mexican was hit with a five-second penalty in the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix after he left his pit bay unsafely.<\/p>\n

That came after Red Bull decided to double-stack its entries, led by eventual race winner Max Verstappen<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Perez was released into the path of Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso, who was forced to brake in avoidance.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Per the FIA stewards' report, Alonso had to "take evasive action to avoid a collision" and duly penalised Perez.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"What made the situation worse was the fact that car 11 left the pits when there was a red light shown to it (indicating that it should not go out of the pit box)."<\/p>\n

Perez now finds himself four points shy of an automatic ban with eight to his name over the current 12-month period.<\/p>\n

"When I was going out it was actually my mistake because I was told by the team to hold it back, but in hindsight there I looked on the right and there was nobody there when I looked," said Perez.<\/p>\n

"In hindsight, I think the penalty was correct and that pretty much compromised our race. You are able to have a bit of awareness of what's going on around you definitely.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"Sometimes the team can be a little bit slower than you in the car, but this time it was the other way around. My bad in that one, but it still happily didn't change our race."<\/p>\n

Any driver who goes over the 12-point limit over the 12-month period is sidelined for one race.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Perez' previous penalty points came from a clash with Alex Albon in the 2022 Singapore Grand Prix, two points for overtaking Alonso under safety car in last year's Japanese Grand Prix, two points for colliding with Kevin Magnussen in the same race, and two points for colliding with Lando Norris in the season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.<\/p>\n

The clash with Albon and the latest indiscretion earned Perez one penalty point apiece.<\/p>\n
