League great Paul Gallen<\/a> has urged unhappy Dragons<\/a> star Zac Lomax<\/a> to see the bright side of his switch to the wing.<\/p>\n

New St George Illawarra coach Shane Flanagan on Sunday admitted Lomax is "upset" about being moved from centre to the wing, despite a starring performance against Gold Coast on Saturday night<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 24-year-old ran for 266 metres, \ufeffhad two linebreaks, two tackle breaks and scored a try as the Red V thumped the sorry Titans 28-4 on the glitter strip.<\/p>\n

In defence, Lomax only had to make one tackle, according to NRL statistics.<\/p>\n

While wingers have historically been the butt of rugby league jokes, Gallen argues they now have a bigger role to play than centres.<\/p>\n

\"Zac<\/p>\n

"I don't know why he's not happy," Gallen told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

"At the end of the day it's a team sport, and when you've got a coach like Shane Flanagan… he's been there and done it at all different levels.<\/p>\n

"I actually think it's a great position for Zac Lomax. Centres probably touch the ball less than wingers these days.<\/p>\n

"Have a look at the impact someone like Brian To'o has on the Panthers, that's the sort of impact that Lomax could have on the Dragons.<\/p>\n

"He's a kick target, he's great in the air so he's going to be great in defence, (opposition) will no longer be able to kick to that side of the field, and he's also great in the air in attack.<\/p>\n

"I think it's a good move for Zac Lomax."<\/p>\n

Reports last week claimed Lomax was disgruntled about being shifted by the new coach.<\/p>\n

He had designs on staying at centre, or lining up at fullback for the Dragons this year, but has been moved further out.<\/p>\n

"He's upset that he's not playing centre," Flanagan told 2GB's Continuous Call Team<\/em> on Sunday.<\/p>\n

"I need to pick the best 17 players. He's definitely in there. He's fine.<\/p>\n

"He'd like to play centre\u2026 he will have a bit of a different role and he's quite happy to go out there and do the best for the Dragons."<\/p>\n

Lomax was already one of the highest paid centres in the game and his salary at the Red V is $800,000-a-season.<\/p>\n

The Sydney Morning Herald reports<\/a> the star won't be getting released from the Dragons this year, but his desire to play fullback also looks like it won't come to fruition under Flanagan.<\/p>\n

Young gun Tyrell Sloan was electric against the Titans, meaning Lomax is certain to remain on the wing for at least a little longer.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The only other position I think he could play – apart from centres – is fullback, (where) he could get his hands on the ball even more. But Sloan scored three tries and had a great game on the weekend. We all know he's a talent," Gallen said.<\/p>\n

"But when they're winning and they both played as well as they did in their respective positions, why would you change them?<\/p>\n

"It's a brave move by Flanno, I think it's a good move. It gets Zac in the game more and gives him more carries.<\/p>\n

"I don't know what the problem is. I'd like to think it's more the media talking about it than Zac himself."<\/p>\n
