GWS<\/a> small forward Brent Daniels has slammed Collingwood<\/a> ruckman Mason Cox<\/a>'s "bizarre" antics in the lead up to their Opening Round match in Sydney.<\/p>\n

Cox has now received a please\ufeff explain from the AFL for his on field behaviour before the Giants 32-point victory over the reigning premiers on Saturday night, according to 9News Melbourne.<\/p>\n

The ruckman got himself involved in a pre match warm up with the Giants, shoving GWS ruck coach \ufeffShane Mumford in the back while competing in a mock ball-up exercise before the first bounce.<\/p>\n

It's not the first time Cox has shaken up the Giants camp, after complaining last year about the location for the Opening Round match.<\/a>\ufeff<\/p>\n

In November, chief executive Andrew Dillon claimed the radical new format resulted from a unique opportunity to feature four matches in "major venues" up north.<\/p>\n

Cox was unimpressed to see the Pies scheduled at "a showground for livestock"<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\ufeffReacting to the announcement on X, Cox was critical of the decision to play the Pies' first match of the season at the purpose-built venue for the Sydney Royal Easter Show.<\/p>\n

"Round one NRL goes to Las Vegas. AFL premiers go to \u2026 A showground for livestock \u2026," Cox tweeted last year.<\/p>\n

In response, the Giants set up a petting zoo outside the ground with a cardboard cut out of Cox front and centre.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Daniels, who booted four goals in GWS' win on Saturday night, has expressed his confusion towards Cox's antics.<\/p>\n

"Mason likes to say things that get a bit of a headline, he likes the limelight," he told Nine's Sunday Footy Show<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"But what he did before the game I thought was really bizarre. Bit of carry on, I thought."<\/p>\n

\ufeffCox's night was pretty quiet, collecting just five disposals, all in the second half.<\/p>\n

\ufeffDaniels, who had 22 disposals alongside his four majors, says GWS pride themselves on humility on and off the ground, letting their football do the talking.<\/p>\n

"I'd like to think we're really humble and hungry as a team so to see that, it wasn't a good look I didn't think," he said. <\/p>\n

"If you're going to do that, you're going to want to back it up on the field."<\/p>\n

Despite Cox's comments on the ground, the Giants had a crowd of 21,235 at Giants Stadium for their Opening Round match.<\/p>\n

For Daniels and his teammates, it's a pretty momentous number \ufeffas the AFL and Giants continue to push for growth of the game up north.<\/p>\n

"We know we're a small base, but we really love our Giants fans. We had 21,000 people there yesterday\ufeff which is really special for us," he said.<\/p>\n

"The amount of times we've played in front of 3,000 -4,000.<\/p>\n

\"Brent<\/p>\n

"I know a lot of the Melbourne clubs look at our ground and go 'geez, we get that every week', but it was really special for us\ufeff."<\/p>\n

\ufeffGWS will stay at home to take on North Melbourne in round one next week.<\/p>\n
