C\ufeffarlton<\/a> midfielder Blake Acres has revealed the devastation he and teammates felt when they first heard of Sam Docherty<\/a>'s heartbreaking third ACL rupture.<\/p>\n

Docherty ruptured his ACL and tore his meniscus in his right knee during Friday night's Opening Round match<\/a> against Brisbane.<\/p>\n

He went down mid-way through the first quarter, which the Blues went on the win by one point after being 46 points down<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old was tackled on the Gabba's boundary line by Lion Callum Ah-Chee, innocuously going down and grabbing at his knee immediately.<\/p>\n

He shook off the soreness and got up to continue running, but headed to the bench to strap the knee.<\/p>\n

Docherty did return to the field of play but was quickly subbed off at half-time, before scans revealed the terrible blow.<\/p>\n

Acres, who joined the Blues at the start of 2023 from Fremantle, \ufeffdeclared the entire club is "shattered" at the news that the 168-game veteran and cancer survivor has been dealt another cruel blow.<\/p>\n

"We're just shattered for Doc (Docherty), really\ufeff," Acres told Nine's Sunday Footy Show.<\/em><\/p>\n

"If you know Doc as a person, he's one of the great football people.<\/p>\n

"We were all hoping and thinking it was quite a minor injury, so to get that news last night, I'm sure he's as shattered as we all are."<\/p>\n

With Docherty undergoing surgery in the upcoming week, Acres knows the 30-year-old will be quick to return to the club in an off field role for the 2024 season.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"He'll put his heart and soul into the group," he said.<\/p>\n

"He'll be with us for the whole year and support us in any way he can."<\/p>\n

The defender made an astonishing AFL<\/a> comeback in 2022's round one clash with Richmond<\/a> \u2013 in an inspirational return from a cancer battle.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old underwent chemotherapy after a routine check-up in 2021 showed testicular cancer had returned<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Docherty first ruptured his ACL in his left knee in 2017\ufeff, reinjuring it again ahead of the 2019 season.<\/p>\n
