Two league legends have been left stunned after the Cowboys were awarded a controversial penalty try against the Dolphins<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Late in the second half, a Chad Townsend grubber went dead after Zac Laybutt and Jeremiah Nanai failed to jump on the ball despite being in its vicinity.<\/p>\n

The Bunker intervened just before a 20 metre restart with winger Jack Bostock ruled to have impeded Laybutt's ability to score.<\/p>\n

Bostock nudged Laybutt in the in goal area, but only after the ball had taken a sharp bounce away from the Cowboys attackers.<\/p>\n

Queensland Maroons legend Paul Vautin<\/a> wasn't convinced a penalty try should've been awarded. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"S\ufefftop it, you have to be 100 per cent sure that he would've got there and grounded, come on … that ball had actually got away from him, he'd run past it. Turn it up," he said on Nine's coverage.<\/p>\n

"… that's such a bad decision … I'm sure they're going to review that at the referees convention tomorrow … I think it was a poor decision."<\/p>\n

Even Cowboys<\/a> icon Johnathan Thurston<\/a> thought the Dolphins<\/a> were hard done by, laughing as he called it a "gee up". \ufeff<\/p>\n

"I'm the staunchest of staunchest Cowboys fans and that is not the right \ufeffcall, he had all the time of day to dive on the ball when he had the chance … they've got away with one right there the Cowboys," he said.<\/p>\n
