Titans<\/a> captain Tino Fa'asuamaleaui<\/a> could not hide his disappointment following his side's 28-4 loss to the Dragons<\/a> at Cbus Super Stadium on Saturday night.<\/p>\n

With the Dragons coming in as the underdogs for the clash, the Titans failed to fire as their attack stalled and they struggled to defend.<\/p>\n

Fronting up after the loss, Fa'asuamaleaui did not mince his words on his side's performance.<\/p>\n

"It's disappointing that we've started the year like that," he told Fox League post-match.<\/p>\n

"It's quite embarrassing, to be honest.<\/p>\n

"I was backing the boys, I was backing our defence. But then we had a few penalties and \ufeffa few errors, and it just grew and grew and we couldn't stop it.<\/p>\n

"It's very tough, you work so hard during the pre-season, and I know it's only round one, but you expect to win and you expect to show good defence, and we just didn't do that.<\/p>\n

"It's very frustrating.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Only trailing by two points at half time, Gold Coast's forwards had opportunities to flip the script but many were quashed on the opposition's tryline.<\/p>\n

Early into the second half, things started to go sideways for the Titans as the hosts failed to defend their mounting errors as the Dragons piled on four unanswered tries.<\/p>\n

Addressing the media after his first game at the helm of the Titans, coach Des Hasler<\/a> kept his responses brief.<\/p>\n

"It wasn't the start we wanted," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffThe two halves were played on two huge swings of possession.<\/p>\n

\"Sloan<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWe had a huge swing on possession in the first half (59 per cent) and they managed to hang on.<\/p>\n

"Then it was our turn to work through and defend those huge possession swings, and we didn't do it so well.<\/p>\n

"So, it was disappointing."\ufeff<\/p>\n

Hasler acknowledged that his side missed a trick with their defence \u2014 his well-drilled defensive system a much-respected trait of his teams.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIn the second half, I think we made too many errors and played a lot of footy out of our own end," he added.<\/p>\n

Asked if taking on the coaching role at the misfiring Tutans was "a bigger job than he expected", Hasler was quick to \ufeffshut down any further discussion.<\/p>\n

"Nah, it's only the first game," he replied.\ufeff<\/p>\n

In a huge blow ahead of kick-off, \ufeffveteran five-eighth Kieran Foran was ruled out with a hamstring complaint.<\/p>\n

According to Hasler, Foran should be fit to take part in the Titans' next match.\ufeff<\/p>\n
