Carlton<\/a> veteran Sam Docherty<\/a> has ruptured his ACL and torn his meniscus in his right knee, in a heartbreaking update for the Blues veteran.<\/p>\n

He went down mid-way through the first quarter against Brisbane in their Opening Round clash, which the Blues went on the win by one point after being 46 points down<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Devastatingly, this is Docherty's third ACL \ufeffinjury he has suffered across his 168-game career.<\/p>\n

The 30-year-old was tackled on the Gabba's boundary line by Lion Callum Ah-Chee, innocuously going down and grabbing at his knee immediately.<\/p>\n

He shook off the soreness and got up to continue running, but headed to the bench to strap the knee.<\/p>\n

Docherty did return to the field of play but was quickly subbed off at halftime.<\/p>\n

The defender made an astonishing AFL<\/a> comeback in 2022's round one clash with Richmond<\/a> \u2013 in an inspirational return from a cancer battle.<\/p>\n

The 28-year-old underwent chemotherapy after a routine check-up in 2021 showed testicular cancer had returned<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Docherty underwent 12 weeks of chemotherapy in 2021 after the cancer returned following its initial discovery in November 2020.<\/p>\n

The 2017 All-Australian wasn't considered a feasible chance of playing in round one of 2022 when he met with Voss in September, but he's since returned to his optimal playing weight and performed strongly in a host of pre-season hit-outs.<\/p>\n

Docherty first ruptured his ACL in his left knee in 2017\ufeff, reinjuring it again ahead of the 2019 season.<\/p>\n

This is his first right knee ACL\ufeff injury.<\/p>\n
