B\ufeffrisbane<\/a>'s worst fears have come true with star defender Keidean Coleman confirmed to have ruptured the ACL in his left knee.<\/p>\n

Coleman, who was runner-up in last year's Norm Smith medal count in the Lions' losing grand final side, was tackled by Blue Lachie Fogarty, smacking his knee against the Carlton small forward<\/a> in the Lions one-point loss at the Gabba.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old stayed on the ground well after the half-time siren sounded, being helped to his feet after some time on the turf, looking in agony.<\/p>\n

Shortly after, the Lions confirmed the grim update, with Coleman subbed out before the second half began and replaced by Kai Lohmann.<\/p>\n

Coleman underwent scans on Saturday, with the club sharing the heartbreaking update during the afternoon.<\/p>\n

Coleman becomes the fourth Lion to go down with an ACL injury since 2021.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Brisbane footy manager Danny Daly expressed the club's disappointment for the youngster.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"It's really disappointing news for Keidean, especially in the first game after a strong pre-season and an impressive finals campaign last year," Daly said in a club statement on Saturday.<\/p>\n

Despite Coleman's 2024 season being likely all but over, the Lions have thrown their support\ufeff behind his comeback.<\/p>\n

The club has expressed their excitement towards his future return.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"However, Kiddy is only young and has a very bright future ahead of him with the Brisbane Lions, which we all look forward to," Daly said.<\/p>\n

"Kiddy is an extremely positive and calm person, so I am confident those traits will no doubt help him get through his recovery over the coming months.<\/p>\n

"He of course has the full support of everyone at our club and we will continue to be right with him every step of the way."<\/p>\n

Speaking post-match, Brisbane coach Chris Fagan said the 23-year-old, who has come into his own since last year, was expecting the worst outcome.<\/p>\n

"At this stage, it's not looking great, it looks like an ACL," Fagan said on Friday night.<\/p>\n

It is the Lions' fourth ACL injury since 2021, with a plethora of key players going down with knee troubles over the last few years.\ufeff<\/p>\n
