C\ufeffollingwood<\/a> may be more than 800 kilometres away from home, but the reigning premiers say they couldn't think of a better way to kick off their flag defence.<\/p>\n

They'll take on GWS<\/a> at Giants Stadium in Sydney on Saturday\ufeff, the side they defeated by just one point in last year's preliminary final<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But they're not worried about the possibility of being outnumbered interstate, with the game already a sell out\ufeff.<\/p>\n

On top of that, a big number of the Magpie Army has already made the trek up north for Opening Round, the league;s new initiative in hopes of growing the game across New South Wales and Queensland.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"When we travel interstate we have a great following all around Australia," Pies assistant coach Hayden Skipworth told media on Friday.<\/p>\n

"Round zero an awesome feat to get our season underway. The boys are looking forward to getting into the season."<\/p>\n

It's set to be a hot and humid day ahead of the side's night match up, which are conditions the Magpies may not be used to.<\/p>\n

GWS however, know exactly how to utilise the weather to their advantage.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"As we saw last night (at the SCG), it's going to be a little slippery and it's still pretty warm, so, we feel pretty comfortable," Giants coach Adam Kingsley said on Friday.<\/p>\n

But Collingwood is confident it can combat the humid conditions.<\/p>\n

"We\ufeff've picked a transitional team, we've got lots of mids in the team," Skipworth said.<\/p>\n

"I think it's going to be a ground-level game, as it was last night (Sydney vs Melbourne). I don't think it's going to be a lot of pack marking.<\/p>\n

"Hopefully our mids get to work, get the ball going forward and bring our small forwards into play as well\ufeff."<\/p>\n

As Collingwood prepare to defend their silverware, GWS prepare to right the wrongs of their 2023 campaign,\ufeff as their search for a maiden premiership enters its 13th year.<\/p>\n

Despite still feeling the pain of that losing preliminary final, Kingsley's Giants know that the only way forward is to rectify their mistakes.<\/p>\n

"We'll never be able to do anything about losing a prelim, so we've got to shift our focus onto this year\ufeff," Kingsley said.<\/p>\n
