H\ufeffarry McKay<\/a> has opened up on his intense pre season, as he looked to overcome his deflated confidence in front of goals in 2024.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old power forward helped Carlton to a special one point victory over Brisbane at the Gabba on Friday night<\/a>, handing the Blues their first win at the venue since 2013, over 11 years ago.<\/p>\n

\ufeffIt was McKay himself who kicked the set shot winner, a goal he may not have kicked back in 2023, or even during the pre season just a few weeks ago.<\/p>\n

Despite the mounting pressure on the 2021 Coleman medallist's back, McKay says his summer in front of goals helped him to not only put himself at ease, but also learn to block out the doubters.<\/p>\n

"Big focus over the summer was to have a routine that I was committed to and repeat every kick," McKay said on Fox Footy post match.<\/p>\n

"I am really confident, no matter what the moment is, to be able to go back and follow that routine.<\/p>\n

Carlton rallied from a whopping 46 points down at one stage during the second quarter to claw their way to an opening round victory no one saw coming.<\/p>\n

McKay himself booted three majors, but it was his third and final that will be etched into his memory forever.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Recounting that one special goal in the dying minutes of the game, the key forward\ufeff says he simply stuck to his routine and the work was done.<\/p>\n

"Bit of nerves, bit of excitement, but I went back and did my routine, committed to the ball and it went through. It was a good feeling," McKay said.<\/p>\n

The Lions fell apart in the third term, as the Blues booted eight unanswered goals\ufeff, to head into the final break one point in front.<\/p>\n

In sour news for both Blues and Lions fans, two of their key players went down with knee injuries.<\/p>\n
