T\ufeffhe Sydney Swans<\/a> are considering adding their "march to the match" initiative to more home games to celebrate their 150th in the V\/AFL.<\/p>\n

As part of their Opening Round game against Melbourne<\/a> at the SCG on Thursday night, the Swans playing squad walked through the crowd to enter the ground.<\/p>\n

It is a concept that has been lauded already, with thousands of fans able to create a path and cheer on their heroes on their way onto the playing field.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Led by drummers and security guards, all players walked on a red carpet rolled out around the SCG, able to high-five fans as they prepared to play the 2021 premiers, in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

The march may have worked, with Sydney going on to win their first match of the year by 22 points, with new Swan ruckman Brodie Grundy starring against his former Demons.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe club is reportedly keen to carry on their newfound tradition as they commemorate 150 years in the game.<\/p>\n

Swans officials are working through security, crowd control and police support in hopes that the tradition can be ignited throughout 2024 at the SCG.<\/p>\n

The club put the official invite out to members and fans to join them at Swans headquarters on Thursday from 5.30pm, to watch the players train and then help create the guard of honour for the march to the match.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Sydney players are no strangers to walking around the streets of the SCG, however.<\/p>\n

The last time Swans players were caught walking through the crowd was back in 2022, but it wasn't planned like Thursday night.<\/p>\n

It occurred when legendary goalkicker Buddy Franklin booted his 1000th goal against Geelong, with the crowd swarming the champion on the ground, forcing his teammates<\/p>\n

Players were unable to reach their changerooms while the patrons slowly made their way back to their seats, so Ollie Florent and Chad Warner took matters into their own hands.<\/p>\n

The pair were spotted walking Driver Avenue after the mayhem to attempt to reenter the ground from another gate.<\/p>\n

The Swans were able to overcome the Demons in a close contest until the last quarter.<\/p>\n

Nick Blakey collected 26 disposals alongside Isaac Heeney, meantime,\ufeff Hayden McLean booted two goals.<\/p>\n
