Cronulla<\/a> has pulled off an unlikely 16-12 victory\ufeff over the Warriors<\/a>, with star halfback Nicho Hynes<\/a> pulling off a late try-saver to seal the surprise result.<\/p>\n

After early tries for Addin Fonua-Blake and Luke Metcalf sent the sold-out crowd at Go Media Stadium into raptures, the visitors bounced back in a trademark gritty display despite the weight of possession against them.<\/p>\n

Jesse Ramien and Ronaldo Mulitalo hit back on either side of the half-time break \ufeffbefore Siosifa Talakai overcame an ankle injury to give the Sharks a narrow lead with a powerful 57th-minute four-pointer.<\/p>\n

But with just over a minute remaining and the Warriors surging, it was Hynes who pulled off an incredible tackle on opposing back-rower Jackson Ford, chopping him down close to the line and allowing the Shire-based franchise to hold on for the two points.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"That is a season builder," Michael Ennis said post-game on Fox League.<\/p>\n

"The grit they showed, the toughness they showed after that early onslaught – to be able to wrestle back momentum. They had to go over there and set the tone for the season and ambush the Warriors on home soil.<\/p>\n

"It was led by Nicho Hynes – in that second half, he had so much traffic going at him. With a minute to go, the try-saver on Jackson Ford was an absolute beauty.<\/p>\n

"What a spirited performance."<\/p>\n

Hynes finished with 22 tackles and just one miss, shutting down a number of attacking raids from the Warriors in the second-half. \ufeff<\/p>\n

However, in humble fashion, the former Dally M Medal winner talked up his teammates and simply claimed he was doing his job for the team.<\/p>\n

"I want to have a better defensive year," he said in the press conference.<\/p>\n

"It can't happen without our middles working hard throughout the game. We defended our line in the first-half \u2026 I knew that was gonna win us the game. <\/p>\n

"That's not on me, that's our whole team and I just had to do my job there. Anyone in that position would have made that tackle."<\/p>\n

The one concern for Cronulla will be the fact Braydon Trindall was placed on report for a high tackle after collecting Warriors' flyer Dallin Watene-Zelezniak high and could face sanction from the match review committee.<\/p>\n

Warriors superstar Roger Tuivasa-Sheck<\/a> showed plenty of promise in his return from rugby union, finishing with 172 run metres and five tackle breaks, but was well-contained down the home stretch by the Cronulla defence.<\/p>\n
