T\ufeffhere are fears for Brisbane Lions<\/a> defender Keidean Coleman after he was subbed out of their opening round match against Carlton<\/a> with a hyper-extended knee.<\/p>\n

Coleman, who was runner-up in last year's Norm Smith medal count in the Lions' losing grand final side, was tackled by Blue Lachie Fogarty, smacking his knee against the Carlton small forward.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old stayed on the ground well after the half time siren sounded, being helped to his feet after some time on the turf, looking in agony.<\/p>\n

Shortly after, the Lions confirmed the grim update, with Coleman subbed out before the second half began and replaced by Kai Lohmann.<\/p>\n

It would be a brutal blow considering the profound impact the quick defender had on his losing Lions grand final side after he collected a massive 26 disposals, the second most on the ground that day.<\/p>\n

"Real concerns in that Fogarty tackle we saw in that forward pocket," Alastair Lynch said on Fox Footy.<\/p>\n

The club will face a nervous wait for scans \ufeffto reveal if any serious damage has been done to Coleman's knee.<\/p>\n

Another knee worry has also popped up for opponents Carlton, with veteran Sam Docherty also subbed off with a knee complaint.<\/p>\n

Docherty went down awkwardly, in a tackle from Lion Callum Ah Chee, coming back onto the ground early with heavy strapping.<\/p>\n

Apart from Coleman's injury, Brisbane began first-quarter their match in scintillating fashion\ufeff, kicking seven goals (7.2) to Carlton's two goals.<\/p>\n

It was their second-highest first quarter score to start their AFL season, behind\ufeff the 7.3 they booted against Gold Coast in round one of the 2017 season.<\/p>\n
