The boss of one of America's biggest sporting clubs says he would consider buying a stake in an NRL<\/a> team.<\/p>\n

\ufeffSan Francisco 49ers<\/a> president Al Guido spoke at the NRL's business and sport conference in Las Vegas on Saturday, the day before the historic season opening double header in the famed Sin City.<\/p>\n

He later gave an interview to Australian media outlets including the Sydney Morning Herald<\/a>, where he was asked about potentially buying into the NRL.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Guido is also chairman of Elevate Sports Ventures, which last year invested in English football club Leeds United.<\/p>\n

"We like to be thought of as multi-sport ownership," Guido said.<\/p>\n

"And again, it's not a new concept. Fenway Sports Group has bought multiple franchises.<\/p>\n

"We will look at anything that has a passionate fan base because, to us, it starts with people coming through the gates and supporting it.<\/p>\n

"The reality is you have a pretty good commercial opportunity (in the NRL).<\/p>\n

"Would we take a look? Absolutely."<\/p>\n

Private ownership is certainly not a foreign concept in the NRL, with 10 of the 17 clubs being privately owned either partly or wholly.<\/p>\n
