P\ufeffhil Gould<\/a> has urged the Wests Tigers<\/a> to take a cautious approach with boom teenager Lachlan Galvin.<\/p>\n

The 18-year-old halfback looks to be heading towards an NRL<\/a> debut this season – and perhaps as early as round two – after being added to the club's senior roster on a three-year deal.<\/p>\n

He suited up in last week's trial against the Dragons and looked impressive coming off the bench.<\/p>\n

"He's a great kid, he's been on the horizon for some time. He's an NRL player," Gould told Wide World of Sports' Six Tackles with Gus<\/em> podcast<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"At 18 years of age, and he's still a bit slight, they'll have to look after him for a while but he will force his way into the NRL sooner rather than later.<\/p>\n

\"Wests<\/p>\n

"He was quite impressive (in the pres-season trials), even though the Tigers weren't that good, he did some really nice things for one so young.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"He is a shining light on the horizon, no doubt about that. I think he will be representative class down the track.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

While Gould believes Galvin is classy enough to feature in the NRL already, he wants the Tigers to take it slow.<\/p>\n

The Concord club is wallowing on the bottom of the competition, with consecutive wooden spoons and a tumultuous off-season \ufeffcasting a dark cloud over Benji Marshall's rookie season as coach.<\/p>\n

With Galvin being paraded as their next big thing, it will be tempting to throw the talented teenager straight in the deep end, and hope he can swim.<\/p>\n

But Gould fears that could have disastrous consequences.<\/p>\n

"You've just got to protect them from themselves a little bit. He's got no fear, and kids like that you've got to protect from themselves," Gould explained.<\/p>\n

"They just need to be careful not to let the current needs overweigh the long-term development of a very talented player.<\/p>\n

"I would hate to see him rushed too much and too often into that position, and he's certainly not there to save them.<\/p>\n

"But to develop him properly over a period of time they need to take their time with him.<\/p>\n

\"Gould's<\/p>\n

"For the teams at the bottom, when you're having those days where you're getting beaten by 40 and 50, it can be a very harrowing experience for them out there.<\/p>\n

"Fans have just got to be patient.\ufeff"<\/p>\n

Galvin joins the Fainu brothers – playmaker Latu and prop Samuela – as the young stars giving hope to long-suffering Tigers fans.<\/p>\n

And with three-time premiership player Jarome Luai arriving in 2025, Gould can see sunshine ahead.<\/p>\n
