Port Adelaide<\/a> star Sam Powell-Pepper<\/a> has been hit with a four-game ban at a marathon AFL tribunal that lasted three and a half hours.<\/p>\n

Powell-Pepper was referred straight to the AFL tribunal after his shoulder collided with the head of Adelaide player Mark Keane<\/a> during a pre-season game.<\/p>\n

The 26-year-old fronted the first tribunal hearing of the year on Wednesday and argued his case in a marathon affair.<\/p>\n

It took the panel an hour and a half to deliberate and determine the penalty following the hearing.<\/p>\n

T\ufeffhe AFL's counsel pushed for a four-game ban, while the Power argued three games was a fair punishment.<\/p>\n

The club even brought in a biomechanics expert to help its case, while the AFL pointed to the league's crackdown on high contact.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"The player has pleaded guilty and never avoided his responsibilities for this and ought to be given credit for that," the Power said at the hearing.<\/p>\n

"This case is at the very low end of culpability. There was no conscious decision to bump, what culpability there is unfolds in the last 0.09 seconds.\ufeff<\/p>\n

\"Mark<\/p>\n

"It is not legitimate to make a scapegoat of Powell-Pepper in this instance by applying a penalty out of proportion to his culpability … the appropriate penalty is three games, anything further would be manifestly excessive."<\/p>\n

Port Adelaide begins its season proper on March 17 against West Coast\ufeff.<\/p>\n
