The men's Australian Open singles final<\/a> packed in an avalanche of dramatic moments, yet the crowd also played its part in the drama, becoming an unfortunate distraction as the match wore on.<\/p>\n

Novak Djokovic's straight-sets victory over Daniil Medvedev was marred by a group of protesters being booted from Rod Laver Arena, Medvedev unleashing heated words at fans and the crowd jeering relentlessly during the post-match ceremony.<\/p>\n

Protesters were removed by security guards after their noisy demonstration forced the chair umpire to stop a rally mid-point during the fourth game of the second set.<\/p>\n

The Age<\/em> sports journalist Daniel Cherny reported one of the protesters had screamed "free the refugees".<\/p>\n

"Bit of a demonstrator in the crowd who's being ejected and taken out," Nine commentator Todd Woodbridge said.<\/p>\n

"They're gone."<\/p>\n

Medvedev was then triggered by a protest that broke out as he served out the final game of the match, repeatedly uttering the words "shut up" before hitting the crowd with a final blow.<\/p>\n

"Show some respect. Shut up," Medvedev said as a chorus of cheers erupted.<\/p>\n

And the unruly crowd continued to cause drama throughout the post-match ceremony, even carrying on during the speeches of Djokovic and Medvedev.<\/p>\n
