Collingwood<\/a> forward Dan McStay, who heartbreakingly missed the Pies heroic 2023 grand final victory<\/a> due to a ligament strain in his right knee, only to go on and tear his left knee ACL just two months later<\/a>, finally has a positive update for club fans.<\/p>\n

McStay missed the 2023 grand final with a medical collateral ligament strain in his right knee which he suffered in the preliminary final against GWS<\/a>. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Then in November, he tore his \ufeffleft ACL during a training session.<\/p>\n

After undergoing surgery on his right knee, McStay confirmed he is back to running 11 weeks after going under the knife. <\/p>\n

\"Dan<\/p>\n

"It's been a little bit of an up-and-down battle the last three months, but … running now," McStay said at the launch of St Kilda's Spud's Game against Collingwood, in honour of late Saints legend Danny Frawley.<\/p>\n

"Those loads will continue to increase over the next few months."<\/p>\n

McStay declared he and his medical team are hopeful of a sensational return to the field before the end of the season.<\/p>\n

"We're just trying to tick off each part as it comes \u2026 speaking with my staff, they seem to be really confident that I'll play some footy this year," McStay said.<\/p>\n

But it's not just running that the forward has been undertaking, revealing he's looking outside footy to hasten a return to full health.<\/p>\n

"I'm slowly building … some change of direction. I've tried a few different things as well," he began.<\/p>\n

"I've done a fair bit of gymnastics and these sort of things to progress a little bit faster, but so far it's just been about building strength in the leg, and it's really exciting that I'm able to run again," he said.<\/p>\n

Despite the optimism, the 175-gamer knows he needs to stay grounded, with the reality of an ACL recovery not always an easy one.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Obviously, you've got to have a lot of luck on your side and you can't really have any setbacks in the timeframe that I'm working with, but the way I've been tracking and the work I've been putting in is giving me a fair bit of hope," he said.\ufeff<\/p>\n
