Tyren Polley committed to SMU over the weekend, and one of the nation’s top defensive backs is now a foundational piece for their 2025 recruiting class.<\/p>\n
Polley is a four-star according to Rivals<\/a> and the No. 21 safety in the nation. He plays for Duncanville (Duncanville, Texas), a top-five team this year in the USA TODAY HSS Super 25.<\/a><\/p>\n In addition to SMU, Polley holds offers from Baylor, LSU<\/a>, Ole Miss and TCU among others.<\/p>\n In committing to SMU, Polley said that the fit with the future ACC program and their coaching staff made this weekend’s verbal. In particular, Polley cites his connection with SMU defensive coordinator Scott Symons<\/a>.<\/p>\n “It felt like the right place and I liked that coach Symons made it clear what his plan is for me as an incoming freshman,” Polley told USA TODAY High Schools Sports.<\/p>\n “They have remained consistent with building a relationship with me and my family. I feel like I will be a great fit for their defense. I also like the direction the program is going in as far as being in a more competitive conference. I believe their alumni support is great. My family likes it and I get an opportunity to represent the city I was born and raised in.”<\/p>\n Polley is an aggressive safety who checks at 5-foot-10 and 183 pounds. He covers lots of ground and is a tough defender who is an aggressive tackler.<\/p>\n He is committed, Polley said, but his recruitment remains open.<\/p>\n “No, not until I sign on the line. Any school that would like to have me come for an official visit, I’m open to it,” Polley said.<\/p>\n
