Kick off in the NRL<\/a>'s Las Vegas<\/a> double header is under a week away and the Americans are doing their best to come to grips with the foreign game.<\/p>\n

Manly Sea Eagles<\/a> winger Jason Saab<\/a> was making an appearance on Las Vegas TV station KLAS 8 News Now when he was asked by presenter Ron Futrell who his opponents would be.<\/p>\n

Futrell's response was classic.<\/p>\n

"They're the Rabbitohs? Is that a real creature?," he asked.<\/p>\n

While the exact story behind the nickname has been lost to time, the commonly accepted source, which predates the NSWRFL, is that players wearing their team jerseys would sell rabbit meat in markets, calling out 'Rabbitoh' to attract attention.<\/p>\n

Saab was asked about the differences between NRL and the NFL, and whether or not the Sea Eagles had watched the Super Bowl, held at that very stadium earlier this month.<\/p>\n

"We were at training at the time and we had some screens up \u2013 it didn't really click that we were going to be playing in that same stadium," he said.<\/p>\n

"When it did, it was exciting \u2013 we're playing on the same field as some of the greatest American footballers that have ever played, and we get to unleash our sport to the US."<\/p>\n

Futrell and co-host Chris Maathuis said they were surprised the NRL had sent competition matches to Vegas, and explained Saab's position to the locals as similar to an NFL wide receiver.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Saab also talked up the four clubs involved.<\/p>\n

"They're not exhibition matches, they're not friendly \u2026 they're not muck-around games, all four teams will be putting in their best performance," he said.<\/p>\n

"We've brought our best four teams to the US to showcase the game, and there will be more good teams coming back over the years as well."<\/p>\n

The Sea Eagles and Rabbitohs play the opening match of the double-header, before the Roosters tackle the Broncos, live on Nine and 9Now this Sunday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
