Australian Open champion Naomi Osaka has apologised for her endearingly awkward winner's speech<\/a> in which she asked runner up Jennifer Brady how she preferred to be called \u2013 and still got it wrong.<\/p>\n

Ruthless in her straight sets title victory on court<\/a>, Osaka was typically charming in her acceptance speech afterwards, with the crowd at times in stitches and others in rapturous applause as they got another window into the multi-faceted personality.<\/p>\n

But it was Osaka's classically awkward opener which perhaps gardener the biggest reaction.<\/p>\n

"Do you like to be called Jenny or Jennifer," Osaka started, turning to her beaten opponent.<\/p>\n

"Jenny," Brady replied, before Osaka addressed her as Jennifer anyway, much to the crowd's amusement.<\/p>\n

It was an innocuous error from the blossoming Japanese star, with her opponenet good enough to see the lighter side of the gaffe.<\/p>\n

But almost 24 hours later, Osaka has only just now been made aware by her unwitting trolling of her opponent.<\/p>\n

"Omg no," She Tweeted this afternoon beside a video of the moment.<\/p>\n

"I promise you my mind thought I called her Jenny in that moment and I was so confused why the crowd was laughing. I'm so sorry."<\/p>\n

At the age of 23, Osaka has now won four Grand Slams, two Australian Opens and two US Opens, to make her the undisputed superstar of her generation.<\/p>\n

She is just two Slams behind Serena Williams' tally at the same age, with the 23-time major winning 39-year-old having already achieved the 'Serena Slam' by her 24th birthday.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
