S\ufeffydney Swans<\/a> veteran Luke Parker<\/a> will miss the start of the AFL<\/a> season after breaking his arm last week.<\/p>\n

The 31-year-old suffered the injury during a pre-season game against cross town rivals Greater Western Sydney.<\/p>\n

He had surgery on Friday and will now be sidelined for an indefinite period of time.<\/p>\n

"He will meet with specialists again this Friday to determine his return to play date," the Swans said on Monday.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The former captain's injury is a bitter blow to the team, given it will also be without new solo skipper Callum Mills to start the 2024 campaign.<\/p>\n

Mills injured his shoulder during a post-season drinking event.<\/p>\n

While Parker is one of Sydney's best long-time midfielders and a gun inside player, the Swans planned to swing him forward more often this year.<\/p>\n

"Parksy's been a wonderful player for a long period of time and what has made him great is he's not a one-position player, he can play forward as well so we've got to utilise that strength when we need to," Swans assistant Mark McVeigh said after last week's trial win over the Giants.<\/p>\n

"When he needs the opportunity to go inside, Chad (Warner) can go there, Taylor (Adams) can play there as well he's done that role at Collingwood."\ufeff<\/p>\n
